Anti-Smoking, what else could be done?
There are many different anti-smoking efforts going on all over the world, they are made on government, social and corporate levels. By initiating this page on our list of noble case we want to make our contribution to this ever going battle. Let’s see what’s going on around and what is done by us (including you).
Steps taken by different countries:
Many countries like the United States of America, Australia, Canada, Singapore & India have banned smoking completely in public places. They have also got a minimum age for smoking so as to protect kids and teenagers from picking up the habit. Countries like Korea have declared certain streets in all of their districts declared “Smoke-Free.” These streets are usually the ones that have hospitals, schools or parks that are frequented by children and teenagers or senior citizens as they are the most prone to the ill-effects of smoking
Many noted celebrities and public figures also support this cause. For instance, Michael R. Bloomberg donated record $125 million USD to fund anti-smoking campaigns on a worldwide scale.
A few words about smoking:
Cigarette smoking is very injurious to the health of smokers as well as those around them. It is known to have claimed millions of lives all over the world. The death toll is only increasing. It also causes many ailments like lung cancer, tongue cancer, cardiac problems & other heart ailments and even respiratory diseases. Countries today are slowly waking up to the disastrous effects of smoking and taking steps to curb the same. However, the onus lies on us, the common people. We need to encourage smokers to quit and also take active steps to not get addicted all over again. We also need to ensure the safety of our kids and senior citizens.
